Welcome
At Riverside, we have a long history of living up to our mission statement: "We at Riverside are committed to the individual needs of our students by providing a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment while promoting responsibility, respect, and academic achievement."
Riverside Middle School was built in 1962 and opened in the fall of 1963. The school received its name through a contest sponsored by the Riverside Optimist Club to name the new junior high. The students came up with "Riverside". The name was submitted to the school district for approval and was accepted.
When the school opened in 1963, Mr. Art Guthrie served as principal and Mr. William Jull served as Vice Principal for 36 teachers and 670 students in grades seven through nine. Because we served grades seven, eight, and nine, the school was called Riverside Junior High. In 1990, our ninth graders moved to the high school, and we became Riverside Middle School.
This year Riverside Middle School is comprised of 538 students, 43 teachers, and an additional 39 staff members, including specialists, administrators, secretaries, paraprofessionals, custodians, and cooks. Our total staff numbers 82 people, many of whom are shared among several schools or work part-time.
We are proud to have been part of the Billings community for over 45 years, and we look forward to welcoming many future generations of students to our school.
Great News!
We have started a Universal Free Breakfast Program for students. All students at Riverside Middle School can eat breakfast for FREE!!!!! Studies have shown that students who eat breakfast perform better both academically and physically. Breakfast is served from 8:00 AM - 8:25 AM every school day. We hope your student will join us!
